Memory Stone, a film installation at The Lowry this week, is a free to enter exhibition in the Gallery area. The exhibition itself consists of a film of around 10 minutes by Artist and Film Maker Nikta Mohammadi.
The film follows a rambler on a journey through the fields and hills of Yorkshire, a typical Yorkshire day of bright but gloomy weather, as he delivered leaflets. Upon reaching a gate, memories started to be triggered. Apparitions of women which were both unnerving yet familiar and maternal seemingly wanting to impart their knowledge of the past to help the traveler help himself.
The imagery and soundtrack of the film combine to create an atmospheric journey into the feeling of forgotten memories – one that a space or event can create and trigger. The film draws you in so you feel part of that moment, and in that space.
As with all independent films, interpretation is created by the viewers own history and journey. I found the film tranquil, thought creating and reassuring.
Memory Stone is at The Lowry between the 23 March – 5 May 2024. For more details, click here – https://thelowry.com/whats-on/nikta-mohammadi-memory-stone/
