The Ambassadors by artist Hew Locke is an 8 week exhibition being held at The Lowry in Salford. It runs from Saturday 29th April until Sunday 25th June.

In 2019 Hew Locke was commissioned by The Lowry to create The Ambassadors. The global Pandemic in 2020 delayed its arrival, but after being shown in London and Rotterdam Hew’s work is finally on display in Salford.

The exhibition is in three parts, the first of which features four almost life sized statues on horseback. Each one is incredibly decorated and Hew has themed each of the statues uniquely. The statues are unnamed and untitled, as Hew believed people should be given the chance to interpret artwork themselves and naming them would be providing context.

The second part of the exhibition covers the walls around the horse riders and features enlarged copies of share certificates, each with distinct artwork drawn on by Hew. He purchased shares for many old valueless companies over the years and found them all to be linked back to one main funding source.

Finally, Hew encourages you to take part in his The Ambassadors exhibition by giving you the opportunity to create your own clay model to be displayed in The Lowry, and to draw your own Ambassador for inclusion on an Ambassadors wall. Clay and drawing implements are both provided for free, along with areas to take photos of your creations and share online.

This is a great exhibition and suitable for Adults and Children alike.
